Scholarships: where do I start?
Obtaining scholarships can be overwhelming, time consuming and difficult at times... but with a little time and work, you can do it!
If you have access to the internet, the following are some websites/links that can connect you to valuable information regarding available scholarships:
www.Fastweb.com - for general information on various scholarships
info@valleyfoundationaz.org - for a scholarship for students who are NOT the top 5% of their graduating class
www.kfcscholars.org - must have a high school cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher
www.bk.com/scholars - must have a high school cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
www.azgrants.gov - Only for early graduates! This applies if you were scheduled to graduate next year but will be completing your requirements between December and May of this year instead of next year.
www.finaid.org - a guide to financial aid scholarships
www.ed.gov - U.S. Department of Education
www.students.gov - Federal Financial Aid Information
These are additional sites you can explore yourself :
www.microsoft.com/collegescholarships/minority.asp www.boeing.com/companyoffices/educationrelations/scholarships
www.blackexcel.org/fin-sch.htm
www.petersons.com
www.scholarships.com
www.collegeanswer.com
Please remember most scholarships require an essay of some type, so take your writing classes/assignments seriously. All scholarship committees also want students that are involved in their schools or communities. This does not mean that you have to be the perfect citizen and be a volunteer everywhere, but you do need to be involved somehow in what is happening in your environment. It is not too late to start! Many scholarship deadlines are as late as March - June.
*All students seeking any type of financial aid or scholarships must complete the FASFA form. This is the nationwide financial aid application that all students need to complete unless you or your family are paying for college and you do not want or need any financial help. This form can be accessed on the internet via:
www.fafsa.ed.gov/ - The application cannot be accessed until January 2010. It cannot be completed until you and your family have completed your tax returns for 2009. You can download the application to obtain a hard copy to work on, but the actual application that is submitted must be completed online.
Please visit the Regional College Access Center website to learn more about RCAC, an organization which is dedicated to the education and future of Pima County residents.
If you earn the grades we will help you reach your dreams.
