Students of the Sophomore and Junior classes were able to hear from Martha McSally on September 13th. Martha came to the school as part of the "Hunger Project" that the Sophomores and Juniors are working on for this first semester. The information that was shared was very insightful. Ms. McSally asked to follow up with Skyview students to hear their recommendations and findings. We look forward to having her back, hopefully some time in December.
On September 13th, Skyview High School played host to Levi Fallavollita who authored a book against bullying. Skyview High School's Video Production Class will be putting together a documentary to share the message against bullying. KGUN 9 and KVOA, channel 4 put links on their website about these stories:
Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild speaks to Skyview High School students to help with their project addressing the issue of hunger.
At the beginning of this year the Sophomore and Junior classes took on a project that integrated English with History. For the Sophomores it integrated their Sophomore English class with World History and for the Juniors it integrated their Junior English class with United States / Arizona History classes. The project was to look at the issue of hunger, determine what is being done, analyze the systems that are currently in place, and determine if improvements could be made. The goal is to be able to present the findings to panels of community members and to inform our local policy makers of the findings as well.
We have invited several policy makers in the community and would like to thank Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild for being our first guest and speaking on this issue from a city aspect. His presentation and willingness to help shed light on the issue within Tucson was invaluable. We would like to thank him for taking time out of his busy schedule to come and make a difference at Skyview High School.
Channel 13 KOLD's Vice President and General Manager Debbie Bush recognized Skyview High School in her "Think About It" editorial on bullying. Skyview was recognized for creating four public service announcements on how to stop bullying. Go to the link below to see the editorial.
