Gloria Nelson-Green • career and technical education

Mrs. Gloria Nelson-Green teaches Family and Consumer Sciences courses associated with Career and Technical Education programs. She specializes in fashion design and merchandising.  She is the Skyview chapter advisor for the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America student organization; school coordinator for the Joint Technological Education District, and Career and Technical Education local director.

Mrs. Nelson-Green has a Master of Arts in Education degree in Curriculum Development / Instructional Design and Distance Education from the University of Phoenix, AZ.  She also is the recipient of a post-bachelor’s teaching certificate from the University of Arizona and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Technology and Occupational Education from Wayland Baptist University, TX.  Additionally, Mrs. Nelson-Green earned an Associate of Applied Arts degree in Design and Merchandising from Pima Community College, AZ; an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electronics Technology from Wayland Baptist University, TX; and Associate of Applied Science in Military Studies and Associate of Applied Science in Aircraft Avionics degrees from the Community College of the Air Force in Maxwell Air Force Base, AL.

Mrs. Nelson-Green is a native of Fort Worth, TX, where she attended Paul Lawrence Dunbar schools. She is a retired senior non-commissioned officer from the United States Air Force after serving 20.4 years in capacities that ranged from an F-16 senior electronics technician, master instructor of technology, chief of training registrar and student records, and finally director of the Air Education and Training aircraft maintenance training school at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, AZ.  She received many military awards, among which are the prestigious Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Leadership School Communication Skills Award. One of her fondest military memories was earning Instructor of the Year, for which she received a 9-G (force of gravity) F-16 flight over the Grand Canyon.

Mrs. Nelson-Green believes that Skyview High School’s non-traditional setting offers unparalleled opportunities for students and she is proud to be a member of the Skyview school family.  Using authentic scenarios, she strives to guide students toward real-world career preparation and positive adulthood.  She has adopted the educational philosophy of “When you stop learning, you stop living!”
